Desktop Publishing Using PageMaker 6.0 Bradley, Floyd, Rittman, Sherman. PageMaker 4.0, 5.0 or 6.0, Mac or Windows version, are adequate to complete assignments. Other supporting software such as PhotoShop, Graphic Converter, Excel, FreeHand, and Claris Works will be used as available in the labs. Supplies: 6 each 3.5" HD Floppy Disks. (DSDD will work but more are needed)
References: Other materials will be handed out as needed.
Instructor: Professor James Braukmann, Cheney Hall Room 200E, Phone 2437.
Students will produce examples of planning or completed documents weekly. PageMaker can be found on selected computers in the PUB computer lab and on all of the Mac and Windows computers in the downtown center. Hours are posted. Computers are also available in Cheney Hall labs from about 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Check for posted times including weekend hours. Students may use their own computers if they have the proper software available.
Note the version of PageMaker that is installed on the machines you are using.
Some of the labs are using PageMaker 6.0, and some are using 6.5. Operationally,
the two versions are similar, and if you begin a project with 6.0 you can complete
it with 6.5. However, if you begin with 6.5 and try to complete the project
with 6.0, your file will not open. It is possible to "save as 6.0"
when you are using 6.5, eliminating the potential problem.
This is a "production" oriented course. Deadlines are critical in business and industry. Late assign-ments will receive a 10% grade reduction. Assignments will not be accepted if more than one week late. If you foresee missing an assignment due date, or even a late date, contact the instructor before that date for other possible arrangements. As computers make it easy to edit documents, full credit will be given only for "perfect" documents. All work handed in should be of professional presentation quality: neat, legible, uncluttered, with correct grammar and spelling. However, certain printing problems may arise in the labs due to low toner, etc. In that case, no points will be deducted for printer related problems. Please note that printing can be slow and often requires extra time. Please don't be late for class because your job is being printed!
