COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1. To relate safety practices to OSHA-WISHA requirements.
2. To gain knowledge of the latest industrial safety practices concerning safe operation of tools and equipment.
3. To identify, analyze, and correct unsafe practices concerning operation of tools and equipment.
4. To provide an opportunity for the student to design a safety program which focuses on a specific industrial or education situation.
5. To provide each student an opportunity to perform or observe a safety inspection.

Accident Prevention Plan                                                                                20 %

Assume that you have been given the responsibility (part-time)
    of a safety person in the small company, school, division of a
    company, or organization in which you are employed or
    anticipate being employed. Your first function as safety person
    is to design a safety program for your unit. I would like you to
        (1) decide on a particular unit in which you will be employed,
        (2) prepare a memorandum (around three pages) describing
            your proposed safety program. Address the memorandum to me
            as your supervisor. Your grade will be based on content,
            completeness, conciseness, grammar, and spelling. The
            memorandum must be typed. Due March 1, 2000.
Safety Related readings (10 each)                                                                      5 %

Submit 10 articles and a short paragraph summarizing these
    articles. Four articles must be from professional journals.
    Your grades will be based on the number of articles and
    summaries submitted. Due February 16, 2000

Bulletin Board project                                                                                        5%
    Working with ____________________, gather material for
    the safety bulletin board on the first floor of Cheney Hall.
    On your group's selected Tuesday you will remove the existing
    displayed material and place your own material. Your grade
    will be based on the decision of the class as a whole. Your
    assigned date is ________________________________ .
